OK, so by now, everyone has probably realized that there are a vast number of choices one can make when it comes to revitalizing your skin. I want to clarify some points and simplify your life when it comes to deciding upon a dermatology routine as well as product selection.

Here are a few rules:

• There is no such thing as a "perfect" skin rejuvenation product, so don't get caught up in feeling like you are making the "wrong" choice. Each product line we carry has its own unique actions although there are certain pairings that make more sense as they can be more synergistic together.
• Skin types play a role in the base you select. If you have oily skin, chances are you want to stick with serums, lotions and gel bases. Creams are typically going to be too heavy. Conversely, if you have dry skin, you need all the moisture you can get, so make sure you consider a cream base over a liquid if possible.
• Pregnant or nursing women typically are advised to avoid products that contain vitamins A and K for theorhetical reasons. Vitamin C, glycolic acids, amino acid peptides, GHK copper peptides etc. are fine. As always, discuss choices with your Ob-Gyn if you are concerned.
• Certain "cosmetic" ingredients increase your sun sensitivity. These include vitamin A derivatives (retinols, Retin A, Differin, Avita, Tazorac, Afirm, SkinCeuticals Retinol etc.) and glycolic acids. The sun is your enemy with regards to the aging process anyway, so make sure you wear sunscreen daily.
• Moisturizers and/or sunscreen may be applied on top of your rejuvenation products if desired. The exception to this rule is topical vitamin A products where moisture may increase irritation. Since they are worn at bedtime, sunscreen won't be an issue here, but avoid your moisturizer if applying Retin A, Afirm, etc. Apply them at a different time of day.
• Normal Skin types may select their products based upon personal preferences. If you like cream vs. lotion, etc., it should not make a difference. Go with what you like.
